Udihep 150

Presentation: Each tablet contains Ursodeoxycholic Acid BP 150 mg. It is usually available in blister packs. The specific manufacturer in Bangladesh may be Mundipharma (BD) Pvt. Ltd.

Indications: Udihep (Ursodeoxycholic Acid) is indicated for:

  • Dissolving radiolucent, non-calcified gallstones in patients with a functional gallbladder.
  • Treatment of primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC).
  • Management of liver disorders associated with cystic fibrosis in children aged 6 years and older.
  • May be used for other cholestatic liver diseases.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage depends on the condition being treated and the patient's body weight, as directed by a physician. Udihep tablets are usually taken orally after meals with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablets.

  • Dissolution of gallstones: Typically 8-12 mg/kg/day, either as a single nighttime dose or in divided doses. The duration of treatment may be several months.
  • Primary biliary cirrhosis: Typically 10-15 mg/kg/day in 2-4 divided doses.
  • Cystic fibrosis-associated liver disease: Typically 20 mg/kg/day in 2-3 divided doses.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, and pruritus (itching). Less common side effects may include headache, dizziness, fatigue, and hair loss.

Precautions: Udihep is contraindicated in patients with:

  • Non-visualizing gallbladder.
  • Calcified gallstones.
  • Gallbladder inflammation or biliary obstruction.
  • Frequent episodes of biliary colic.
  • Hypersensitivity to ursodeoxycholic acid.
  • Severe liver disease.
  • Inflammatory bowel disease.

Caution should be exercised in patients with liver impairment, and liver function tests may be monitored regularly. Women of childbearing potential should use effective non-hormonal contraception.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: Udihep should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed and the potential benefits outweigh the risks. It is not known whether ursodeoxycholic acid is excreted in human milk; therefore, caution should be exercised in breastfeeding women.

Storage: Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
