Unix C Lotion - (60ml) contains a combination of two active ingredients: Permethrin (5%) and Crotamiton (10%). It is available in a 60ml bottle.
Indications:
Unix C Lotion is indicated for the treatment of:
- Scabies: A contagious skin infestation caused by tiny mites.
- Pruritus: Itching. It can help relieve itching associated with scabies and other skin conditions.
Pharmacology:
- Permethrin: It is a pyrethroid insecticide and acaricide. It works by disrupting the nerve cell membranes of the scabies mites, causing paralysis and death.
- Crotamiton: It has both scabicidal (kills scabies mites) and antipruritic (anti-itching) properties. It also has some effect against lice.
Dosage and Administration:
- Unix C Lotion is for external use only. Do not apply it to broken skin, mucous membranes, or near the eyes and mouth.
- Apply the lotion to clean, dry, and cool skin. Avoid using it immediately after a hot bath.
- Adults and children over 2 years: Apply a thin layer of the lotion to the entire body from the neck down. Pay particular attention to areas between fingers and toes, under nails, wrists, armpits, external genitalia, breasts, and buttocks. Â
- Elderly: Apply the lotion to the whole body, including the neck, face, ears, and scalp, avoiding the area close to the eyes and mouth.
- Children under 2 years:Should only be treated under medical supervision. Apply the lotion over the whole body, including the neck, face, ears, and scalp, paying attention to the palms and soles. Avoid the area around the mouth (where it could be licked off) and the eyes. Â
- Leave the lotion on for at least 8 hours.
- Wash the whole body thoroughly 8-12 hours after application.
- If hands are washed within 8 hours of treatment, reapply the lotion to them.
- On the next day, clean clothes and bed linen with warm water.
- Other family members in close contact should also use this lotion preventively as scabies is highly contagious.
- Usually, a single application is sufficient. If necessary, a second application may be given not less than 7 days after the initial application, under medical advice.
Side Effects:
Common side effects are generally mild and transient:
- Burning or stinging sensation (usually mild and temporary)
- Itching
- Rash
- Redness (erythema)
- Dry skin
These symptoms are often part of the natural course of scabies and may not necessarily indicate treatment failure.
Precautions:
- Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. If contact occurs, rinse immediately with water.
- Use with caution in individuals with a history of asthma.
- Cross-sensitivity may occur with ragweed or chrysanthemums.
- The treatment of eczematous-like reactions with corticosteroids should be withheld prior to treatment with Unix C, as it might worsen the scabies infestation by reducing the immune response.
Contraindications:
Unix C Lotion is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to permethrin or crotamiton.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
- Pregnancy: There is limited experience regarding the safety of Permethrin and Crotamiton in pregnancy. It is generally not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, unless clearly needed and under medical advice.
- Lactation: It is not known whether the active substances pass into breast milk. Nursing mothers should avoid applying it to the area of the nipples. Consult your doctor before using Unix C while breastfeeding.
