Valoate CR 300

Presentation: Each controlled-release tablet contains 300 mg of Valproic Acid (as Sodium Valproate). 

Indications: Treatment of various types of epilepsy (seizures), including generalized tonic-clonic seizures, absence seizures, and partial seizures. Also used in the treatment of manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder and for the prophylaxis of migraine headaches.

Dosage & Administration: Dosage varies depending on the condition being treated, age, and response.

• Epilepsy: The usual starting dose for adults is 600 mg daily in divided doses, preferably after food. The dose may be increased by your doctor every 3 days until seizure control is achieved, up to a maximum of 2.5 grams daily. Children's dosage is based on weight.
• Mania: The initial dose is usually 600 mg daily, which may be adjusted by your doctor.
• Migraine Prophylaxis: The usual dose is 400-600 mg daily, although some patients may require higher doses. Swallow the tablets whole; do not crush or chew them. Take with food to minimize gastrointestinal side effects. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.

Side Effects: Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, indigestion, abdominal pain, increased appetite, diarrhea, tremors, and sedation. Less common side effects may include hair loss, weight gain, headache, blurred or double vision, and changes in liver function. Rare but serious side effects can occur, such as liver damage, pancreatitis, and severe allergic reactions.

Precautions: Inform your doctor if you have a history of liver disease, urea cycle disorders, or known hypersensitivity to valproic acid. Use with caution in patients with kidney problems, systemic lupus erythematosus, or pre-existing mitochondrial disease. Valproate CR should not be used during pregnancy due to the risk of serious birth defects. It may pass into breast milk, so caution is advised during breastfeeding. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication. May cause drowsiness or dizziness, so avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you.  

Storage:   Store below 30°C, protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
