Valoate CR 500

Presentation: Each controlled-release tablet contains Sodium Valproate BP equivalent to 500 mg.

Indications: Treatment of all types of epilepsy (e.g., partial seizures, absence seizures, generalized tonic-clonic seizures, myoclonic seizures, atonic seizures, mixed seizures). Prophylaxis of febrile convulsions and post-traumatic epilepsy. Also indicated in the treatment of bipolar disorder and prophylaxis of migraine.

Dosage & Administration: For epilepsy in adults, the initial dose is usually 600 mg daily in 2 divided doses, preferably after food, increasing gradually as directed by your doctor. The usual maintenance dose is 1-2 g daily. Dosage for children varies by weight. For bipolar disorder, the initial dose is usually 600 mg daily in 2-3 divided doses, with a maintenance dosage of 1000-2000 mg daily. For migraine prophylaxis, the usual dose is 400-600 mg daily, though some may need higher doses. Take as directed by your doctor, usually once or twice daily. Swallow the tablets whole; do not crush or chew them.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, weight gain, loss of appetite, gum swelling, headache, sleepiness, and tremor. Less common side effects can include hair loss and liver injury.

Precautions: Inform your doctor if you have liver problems or a family history of liver dysfunction. Use is restricted during pregnancy and in women of childbearing potential. Alcohol consumption is not recommended. May decrease alertness and cause sleepiness or dizziness.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
