Vasocor 2.5 Tablet contains 2.5 mg of Nebivolol Hydrochloride.

Indications: Vasocor is a beta-blocker used to treat:

  • Hypertension (high blood pressure).
  • Stable mild and moderate chronic heart failure in addition to standard therapies in elderly patients over 70 years.

Pharmacology: Nebivolol is a selective β1-adrenergic receptor blocking agent with vasodilating activity. It lowers blood pressure by reducing heart rate and increasing the widening of blood vessels.

Dosage and Administration: The usual starting dose for hypertension in adults is 5 mg once daily. However, your doctor may prescribe Vasocor 2.5 mg as an initial dose, especially if you have kidney or liver problems. The dosage can be increased at 2-week intervals up to a maximum of 40 mg daily, as needed to control blood pressure.

For chronic heart failure in patients over 70 years, the initial dose is typically 1.25 mg once daily, gradually increased by your doctor every 1-2 weeks as tolerated to a maximum of 10 mg once daily.

Vasocor can be taken with or without food. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Bradycardia (slow heart rate)
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness

Less common side effects can include diarrhea, constipation, and cold extremities.

Precautions:

  • Inform your doctor about any pre-existing heart conditions, kidney or liver disease, diabetes, thyroid problems, or allergies.
  • Vasocor may cause dizziness, so use caution when driving or operating machinery.
  • Avoid stopping Vasocor suddenly, as this can worsen heart problems. Your doctor will advise you on how to gradually discontinue the medication if needed.
  • Alcohol: Caution is advised when consuming alcohol with Vasocor 2.5 as it might lower blood pressure further. It's best to limit or avoid alcohol intake.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Vasocor is generally not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.
  • Vasocor can mask the signs of low blood sugar in diabetic patients. Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly.

Contraindications: Vasocor is contraindicated in patients with:

  • Severe bradycardia (very slow heart rate).
  • Heart block greater than first degree.
  • Cardiogenic shock.
  • Decompensated cardiac failure.
  • Sick sinus syndrome (unless a permanent pacemaker is in place).
  • Severe hepatic impairment.
  • Hypersensitivity to nebivolol or any component of the product.

Drug Interactions: Vasocor can interact with other medications. Inform your doctor about all the medicines you are currently taking, including other beta-blockers, digitalis glycosides, certain calcium channel blockers (like verapamil and diltiazem), antiarrhythmic agents, and CYP2D6 inhibitors (like fluoxetine and paroxetine).

Storage: Store between 20-25°C, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
