Vasocor 5
Description
Vasocor 5 contains nebivolol. It is available in tablet form.
Indications
Vasocor 5 is indicated for:
Treatment of essential hypertension.
Adjunct in stable mild to moderate chronic heart failure in patients over 70 years.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: The usual starting dose is 5 mg once daily. The maximum recommended dose is 40 mg once daily.
Renal Impairment: In patients with severe renal impairment, the recommended initial dose is 2.5 mg once daily. The dosage may be titrated up slowly if needed.
Hepatic Impairment: In patients with moderate hepatic impairment, the recommended initial dose is 2.5 mg once daily. The dosage may be titrated up slowly if needed.
Vasocor 5 can be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Vasocor 5 is contraindicated in the following conditions:
Severe bradycardia
Heart block greater than first degree
Cardiogenic shock
Decompensated cardiac failure
Sick sinus syndrome
Patients with severe hepatic impairment
Patients who are hypersensitive to any component of the product
Precautions & Warnings
Caution should be exercised in patients with inadequate cardiac function.
It should be used with caution in patients with well-compensated heart failure.
Caution is advised in patients with myasthenia gravis.
Patients undergoing major surgery involving general anesthesia should use it with caution.
It may mask signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia and hyperthyroidism.
Abrupt withdrawal may exacerbate angina symptoms and/or precipitate myocardial infarction and ventricular arrhythmias in patients with coronary artery disease.
Use with caution during pregnancy and lactation.
Side Effects
The most common side effects are:
Headache
Nausea
Bradycardia
Other side effects may include fatigue, dizziness, diarrhea, and constipation.
Drug Interactions
Use caution when Vasocor 5 is co-administered with CYP2D6 inhibitors (e.g., quinidine, propafenone, fluoxetine, paroxetine).
Do not use Vasocor 5 with other beta-blockers.
Both digitalis glycosides and beta-blockers slow atrioventricular conduction and decrease heart rate. Concomitant use can increase the risk of bradycardia.
Vasocor 5 can exacerbate the effects of myocardial depressants or inhibitors of AV conduction, such as certain calcium antagonists (verapamil and diltiazem) or antiarrhythmic agents (e.g., disopyramide).
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include bradycardia, hypotension, cardiac failure, dizziness, fatigue, hypoglycemia, vomiting, bronchospasm, and heart block.
Storage
Store between 20-25°C. Protect from light. Keep out of the reach of children.
