Vave PD

Presentation: Vave PD is a pediatric oral drop solution. Each milliliter (ml) of the solution contains 5 mg of domperidone maleate. It is typically available in a 15 ml bottle with a dropper for accurate dosage administration.

Indications: Vave PD is indicated for the relief of gastrointestinal symptoms in children, including:

  • Nausea and vomiting (acute and sub-acute)
  • Regurgitation
  • Symptoms of functional dyspepsia such as:
    • Feeling of fullness
    • Abdominal distension
    • Upper abdominal pain

Dosage and Administration: Vave PD should be taken 15-30 minutes before meals. The dosage is usually calculated based on the child's body weight. The typical recommended oral dose for children is 0.2-0.4 mg/kg of body weight, administered every 6-8 hours daily. The maximum daily dose and duration of treatment (usually not exceeding 12 weeks for acute nausea and vomiting) should be as prescribed by the doctor. Use the provided dropper to measure the correct dose.

Side Effects: Side effects of domperidone, the active ingredient in Vave PD, are uncommon in children. Possible side effects may include:

  • Dry mouth
  • Headache
  • Drowsiness
  • Diarrhea
  • Rarely, extrapyramidal symptoms may occur, especially in young children due to an immature blood-brain barrier. These symptoms are usually reversible upon discontinuation.
  • Increased prolactin levels may occur in rare cases.
  • Allergic reactions like rash and urticaria have been reported rarely.

Precautions:

  • Vave PD should be used with caution in young children due to the potential risk of extrapyramidal reactions.
  • It should be used with caution in children with liver impairment as domperidone is metabolized in the liver.
  • Vave PD is contraindicated in neonates and in patients with known hypersensitivity to domperidone.
  • It should not be used when increased gastrointestinal motility could be harmful, such as in cases of gastrointestinal hemorrhage, mechanical obstruction, or perforation.
  • Exercise caution when Vave PD is used with other medications, as it may interact with certain drugs.
  • The safety of Vave PD during pregnancy has not been established, and it is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Domperidone may pass into breast milk, so caution should be exercised in breastfeeding mothers.

Storage: Store Vave PD below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
