Viglimet 500 

Presentation: Viglimet 500 Tablet, available in Bangladesh, is a combination tablet containing Vildagliptin 50 mg and Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg.

Indications: Viglimet is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellituswhose diabetes is not adequately controlled on metformin hydrochloride or vildagliptin alone or who are alreadytreated with the combination of vildagliptin and metformin hydrochlorideas separate tablets.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Viglimet should be individualized based on the patient's current regimen, effectiveness, and tolerability, without exceeding the maximum recommended daily dose of vildagliptin 100 mg and metformin 2000 mg. Viglimet 500 is usually administered twice daily with meals, with one tablet taken in the morning and the other in the evening.

• For patients not currently treated with metformin, the recommended starting dose is usually Viglimet 50/500 mg twice daily.
• For patients switching from metformin monotherapy, the starting dose of Viglimet should provide the same total daily dose of metformin as was previously taken, plus vildagliptin 50 mg twice daily.
• For patients switching from separate tablets of vildagliptin and metformin, Viglimet should be initiated at the same total daily doses of each component.
• Doses higher than 100 mg of vildagliptin are not recommended.
• Taking Viglimet with or just after food may reduce gastrointestinal symptoms associated with metformin.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include nausea, headache, dizziness, and gastro-esophageal reflux disease. Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) can occur if Viglimet is taken with other diabetes medications like insulin or sulfonylureas.

Precautions: Viglimet is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to vildagliptin or metformin hydrochloride or to any of the excipients,renal disease or renal dysfunction,acute myocardial infarction, septicaemia, congestive heart failure, and acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, including diabetic ketoacidosis. It should be temporarily discontinued in patients undergoing radiologic studies involving intravascular administration of iodinated contrast materials.Caution should be exercised in patients with moderate renal impairment and liver disease.

Storage: Store Viglimet 500 tablets in a cool and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
