Viglita 50

Presentation: Each tablet of Viglita 50 contains 50 mg of vildagliptin. 

Indications: Viglita (vildagliptin) is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus:  

• As monotherapyin patients inadequately controlled by diet and exercise alone and for whom metformin is inappropriate due to contraindications or intolerance. 
• In dual combination withmetformin, sulfonylureas, thiazolidinediones, or insulin when diet and exercise plus a single antidiabetic agent do not result in adequate glycemic control.

Dosage and Administration: The recommended dose of Viglita is 50 mg or 100 mg daily.

• For monotherapy or in dual combination with a thiazolidinedione or metformin, the dose is 50 mg once daily or 50 mg twice daily (morning and evening).
• In dual combination with a sulfonylurea, the dose is 50 mg once daily in the morning.
• In dual combination with insulin, the dose is 50 mg twice daily (morning and evening). Viglita can be taken with or without food.

Side Effects: The majority of side effects reported with vildagliptin have been mild and transient. Common side effects may include headache, dizziness, nausea, and hypoglycemia (when used in combination with sulfonylureas or insulin).

Precautions: Viglita is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to vildagliptin or any of the excipients and in patients with moderate or severe renal impairment or hepatic impairment. It is also contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of heart failure. Liver function tests should be performed prior to the initiation of Viglita and periodically thereafter.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
