🌬️ Viscotin (Acetylcysteine)

Viscotin is a powerful mucolytic agent used to thin and loosen thick, sticky mucus in the airways, making it easier to cough up and breathe.

📋 Indications

• Chronic Lung Diseases: COPD, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis.

• Acute Conditions: Asthma with mucus plugging, pneumonia, and tracheobronchitis.

• Cystic Fibrosis: Managing pulmonary complications.

• Post-Surgery: Assisting with respiratory recovery.

🥄 Dosage & Administration

• Adults & Children (>6 years): One 600 mg effervescent tablet daily (preferably in the evening). Dissolve in a small amount of water and drink.

• Children (2–6 years): Use 100 mg sachets, 2 to 4 times daily as directed by a physician.

• Nebulizer: Used in specific medical settings for direct inhalation.

• Duration: 5–10 days for acute cases; may be used for months in chronic conditions.

⚠️ Safety & Side Effects

• Common Side Effects: Headache, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, fever, and ringing in the ears.

• Rare Reactions: Shortness of breath or bronchospasm (sudden airway tightening).

• Antibiotic Interaction: 🛑 Do not take at the same time as antibiotics like ampicillin or tetracycline. Wait at least 2 hours between taking Viscotin and any antibiotic.

• Contraindications: Do not use if you have Phenylketonuria (due to aspartame) or an allergy to Acetylcysteine.

🔍 Important Precautions

• Asthma Patients: Must be closely monitored. If wheezing or breathing difficulty occurs, stop use immediately.

• Odor: The medicine may have a sulfur-like (rotten egg) smell; this is normal for the active ingredient and does not mean the product is spoiled.

• Sodium: Contains sodium (156.9 mg per dose); patients on low-salt diets should use caution.
