Visral (Tiemonium Methylsulphate): An Antispasmodic Drug

Visral contains Tiemonium Methylsulphate, an antispasmodic drug.It is used to reduce muscle spasms and the associated pain in various organs.It is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of pain related to functional disorders of the digestive tract, biliary system, urological, and gynecological diseases.Visral belongs to the therapeutic class of Anticholinergics.


How Visral Works (Pharmacology)

Tiemonium Methylsulphate's mechanism of action is to inhibit muscle spasms:

  • Antagonist of Acetylcholine and Histamine: It acts as a competitive antagonist of acetylcholine and histamine, which are substances that cause muscle contractions.
  • Strengthens Calcium Bonds: It strengthens the bonds between calcium and the membrane phospholipids and proteins of visceral cells.
  • Inhibits Muscle Contraction: By doing this, it inhibits the intracellular contractile proteins of visceral cells, which in turn stops muscle spasms and relieves pain.

Key Indications & Benefits

Visral is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of pain related to:

  • Functional disorders of the digestive tract and biliary system.

Dosage & Administration

  • Tablet/Syrup (Adult): 2-6 tablets or 3-9 teaspoonfuls of syrup daily, in divided doses.
  • Children: 3 ml/kg or 6 mg/kg of body weight daily, in divided doses.
  • Injection: 1 injection three times daily, administered slowly via the intravenous or intramuscular route.
  • Suppository: 20 mg suppository two or three times daily, administered rectally.
