Volibo 0.2

Presentation: Tablets containing 0.2 mg voglibose. 

Indications: Indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve postprandial (after-meal) blood glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. May be used as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetic agents.

Dosage and Administration: The usual starting dose is 0.2 mg three times daily before each main meal. The dose may be increased gradually to 0.3 mg three times daily or as directed by the physician, based on glycemic response and tolerability. The maximum single dose is 0.3 mg and the maximum daily dose is 0.9 mg. Tablets should be swallowed whole with a little water immediately before meals. Follow physician's specific instructions.

Side Effects: Common side effects are primarily gastrointestinal and include flatulence, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, and abdominal pain. These side effects are due to the mechanism of action of voglibose, which inhibits carbohydrate digestion in the intestine. Hypoglycemia is a risk when voglibose is used in combination with other antidiabetic agents such as sulfonylureas or insulin.

Precautions: Use with caution in patients with intestinal obstruction or a history of major abdominal surgery. Not recommended in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, colonic ulceration, or partial intestinal obstruction. Dosage adjustment of co-administered sulfonylureas or insulin may be necessary to minimize the risk of hypoglycemia. Should be used with caution in elderly patients due to potential for increased gastrointestinal side effects.

Storage: Store below 30°C, in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
