Votab (Voriconazole): Advanced Antifungal Treatment

Votab is a potent azole antifungal medicine containing the active ingredient Voriconazole. It is specifically formulated to treat severe, systemic fungal infections in patients aged 12 years and older.

📋 Indications: Targeted Fungal Infections

Votab is indicated for the treatment of high-risk fungal conditions, including:

• Invasive Aspergillosis: A serious infection often affecting the lungs.

• Candidemia and Disseminated Candidiasis: Specifically in the skin, abdomen, kidneys, bladder wall, and wounds.

• Esophageal Candidiasis: Yeast infections of the throat/esophagus.

• Rare Fungal Pathogens: Serious infections caused by Scedosporium apiospermum and Fusarium species.

• Refractory Cases: For patients who are intolerant of or do not respond to other antifungal therapies.

🥄 Dosage and Administration for Maximum Efficacy

For optimal bioavailability, oral Votab must be taken at least one hour before or one hour after a meal.

Oral Dosage (Tablets and Suspension)

• Patients ≥ 40 kg: A loading dose of 400 mg every 12 hours for the first 24 hours, followed by a maintenance dose of 200 mg twice daily.

• Patients < 40 kg: A loading dose of 200 mg every 12 hours for the first 24 hours, followed by a maintenance dose of 100 mg twice daily.

Reconstitution Instructions

To prepare the Votab oral suspension, add 25 ml of boiled and cooled water to the bottle and shake vigorously. The reconstituted suspension is stable for 14 days when stored between 15°C and 30°C.

⚠️ Safety, Interactions, and Contraindications

Voriconazole is a significant inhibitor of CYP450 enzymes. Careful monitoring of drug-drug interactions is essential.

• Strict Contraindications: Do not co-administer with Terfenadine, Sirolimus, Quinidine, Rifampin, or Carbamazepine due to risks of serious adverse reactions or loss of efficacy.

• Interaction Risks: Dosage adjustments may be required when used with Phenytoin or Efavirenz.

• Side Effects: Commonly reported reactions include blurred vision, headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

• Long-term Warning: Use exceeding 180 days increases the risk of Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) of the skin.
