Voxamin XR 150 Tablet

Presentation:Each extended-release capsule contains 150 mg of Fluvoxamine Maleate. 

Indications:Voxamin XR is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant indicated for the treatment of:  

• Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in adults and children aged 8-17 years.  
• Depressive illness in adults.  
• Panic Disorder.
• Eating Disorders.
• Chronic Tension Headache.

Dosage and Administration: The recommended starting dose for adults with OCD is 50 mg once daily at bedtime. The dose should be increased in 50 mg increments every 4 to 7 days, as tolerated, until maximum therapeutic benefit is achieved, not to exceed 300 mg per day. Doses exceeding 100 mg daily should be given in two divided doses, with the larger dose at bedtime.  

For children (8-17 years) with OCD, the starting dose is 25 mg once daily at bedtime, increased in 25 mg increments every 4 to 7 days, as tolerated, up to a maximum of 200 mg per day. Doses exceeding 50 mg daily should be given in two divided doses, with the larger dose at bedtime.  

For depression in adults, the initial dose is usually 50-100 mg daily in the evening, which can be increased up to a maximum of 300 mg daily in divided doses.

Voxamin XR should be swallowed whole and can be taken with or without food, preferably at night. Do not chew or crush the capsules.  

Side Effects: Very common side effects include:

• Nausea
• Headache
• Somnolence (drowsiness)  
• Weakness
• Insomnia (difficulty sleeping)  

Common side effects may include:

• Diarrhea
• Dry mouth  
• Fatigue  
• Increased sweating  
• Indigestion
• Loss of appetite  
• Nervousness
• Tremor  
• Anxiety  
• Vomiting  
• Agitation

Less common but potentially serious side effects can occur. Report any unusual symptoms to your doctor immediately.  

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with a history of mania, seizures, liver dysfunction, cardiac disease, diabetes mellitus, angle-closure glaucoma, or bleeding disorders.  
• May increase the risk of suicidal thoughts and behavior in children, adolescents, and young adults. Monitor for any changes in mood or behavior.  
• May cause drowsiness; caution should be exercised when driving or operating machinery.  
• Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Voxamin XR.  
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Contraindications: Voxamin XR is contraindicated in patients with:

• Hypersensitivity to fluvoxamine maleate or any of the excipients.
• Concomitant use with thioridazine, terfenadine, astemizole, cisapride, pimozide, alosetron, or tizanidine.
• Concomitant use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of discontinuing an MAOI.  

Drug Interactions: Voxamin XR can interact with various medications, including:

• MAOIs  
• Tricyclic antidepressants  
• Warfarin
• Benzodiazepines (e.g., diazepam)
• Theophylline and aminophylline  
• Lithium
• Triptans
• Other SSRIs
• Drugs metabolized by CYP1A2, CYP2C19, and CYP3A4 enzymes

Inform your doctor about all the medications you are currently taking.

Storage:Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
