Xenobese 120
Presentation: Each capsule contains Orlistat 120 mg.
Indications: Xenobese is indicated in conjunction with a mildly hypocaloric diet for the treatment of obese patients with a body mass index (BMI)1 âĨ 30 kg/m² and overweight patients (BMI âĨ 28 kg/m²) with associated risk factors such as type II diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension. Treatment should be discontinued after 12 weeks in patients who have not lost at least 5% of their body weight. In adolescents (12 years and older), Xenobese should be considered only if an adequate reduction of body weight cannot be achieved by diet and increased physical activity, especially if complications of obesity are present.
Dosage and Administration: The recommended dose is one 120 mg capsule to be taken immediately before, during, or up to one hour after each main meal containing fat. If a meal is missed or contains no fat, the dose should be omitted. Doses above 120 mg three times daily have not shown additional benefits.
Side Effects: The adverse reactions of orlistat are mainly gastrointestinal. Common side effects include oily spotting from the rectum, flatulence, fecal urgency, oily or fatty stools, and abdominal discomfort. Rare side effects may include influenza and anxiety. Headache and fatigue may also occur rarely. Hypersensitivity reactions, including pruritus, rash, urticaria, angioedema, and anaphylaxis, have been reported rarely.
Precautions: Xenobese is contraindicated in patients with chronic malabsorption syndrome, cholestasis, and those with known hypersensitivity to orlistat or any other ingredients in the capsule. Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of hyperoxaluria or calcium oxalate nephrolithiasis. It may interact with cyclosporine, vitamin E supplements, vitamin D, vitamin A, vitamin K, levothyroxine, and warfarin. Patients on concomitant warfarin therapy should be monitored closely for changes in coagulation parameters. Convulsions have been reported with concomitant use of antiepileptic drugs.
Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
