Xinc

Presentation: Xinc is available in tablet and syrup formulations. The tablets typically contain Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate USP equivalent to elemental Zinc, with common strengths being 10 mg or 20 mg per tablet. The syrup formulation also contains Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate USP equivalent to a specific amount of elemental Zinc per 5 ml (e.g., 10 mg/5 ml or 20 mg/5 ml). The specific strength and formulation available in Bangladesh will be detailed on the product packaging.

Indications: Xinc is indicated for the treatment and prevention of zinc deficiency. Zinc is an essential trace element crucial for numerous biological functions, including immune function, wound healing, protein synthesis, DNA synthesis, cell division, and growth and development. It is particularly important during periods of rapid growth, such as infancy, childhood, and adolescence, as well as during pregnancy and lactation. Xinc is also used as an adjunct in the management of diarrhea in children.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage depends on the age of the individual, the severity of the zinc deficiency, and the formulation (tablet or syrup). Follow the instructions provided on the product packaging or as directed by a healthcare professional.

  • Tablets: Usually swallowed whole with water. May be taken with or without food, but taking it with food may help reduce potential stomach upset.
  • Syrup: Administered orally using a measuring spoon or cup to ensure accurate dosing.

The duration of treatment will be determined by the healthcare provider.

Side Effects: When taken at recommended doses, Xinc is generally well-tolerated. However, high doses of zinc can cause gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and diarrhea. Long-term excessive zinc intake may lead to copper deficiency.

Precautions: Use with caution in individuals with kidney disease. Zinc supplementation may interact with certain medications, including some antibiotics (e.g., tetracyclines, quinolones) and diuretics. It is advisable to take zinc supplements a few hours apart from these medications. Inform your doctor about all other medications and supplements you are taking.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Always consult your doctor or pharmacist for specific instructions and guidance regarding your medication. They can assess your individual needs and provide the most appropriate advice.
