Xorel 20 mg Capsuleis a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that suppresses gastric acid secretion.It is used to treat conditions such as duodenal ulcers, gastric ulcers, gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD), Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome, and to eradicate Helicobacter pylori.
Dosage:
- Active duodenal and benign gastric ulcers: 20 mg once daily, preferably in the morning.
- Erosive or ulcerative GERD: 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks.
- Long-term management of GERD: A maintenance dose of 20 mg or 10 mg once daily, depending on patient response.
- Symptomatic GERD without esophagitis:10 mg once daily.
- Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: Starting dose is 60 mg once a day, which may be adjusted up to 120 mg/day.
- To eradicate H. pylori: A combination therapy including Rabeprazole sodium 20 mg twice daily, clarithromycin 500 mg twice daily, and amoxicillin 1g twice daily is recommended for 7 days.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects include diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, rash, and dry mouth.
- Serious side effects are rare but can include kidney problems, liver damage, and bone fractures. Â
- Long-term use can cause thinning of bones (osteoporosis) and may lead to calcium deficiency.
