Xtracal-OT 400 

Presentation: Each tablet contains Calcium Orotate equivalent to 400 mg elemental Calcium. Available in strips of [Specify number, e.g., 10 or 15] tablets, manufactured by Pharmasia Limited in Bangladesh.

Indications: Xtracal-OT is indicated for the prevention and treatment of low blood calcium levels in people who do not get enough calcium from their diets. It may be used to treat conditions caused by low calcium levels suchas:  

• Osteoporosis (bone loss) 
• Osteomalacia/Rickets (weak bones) 
• Hypoparathyroidism (decreased activity of the parathyroid gland) 
• Latent tetany (a certain muscle disease) 
• Postmenopausal osteoporosis
• Senile osteoporosis
• Juvenile osteoporosis
• Drug-induced osteoporosis (due to phenytoin, phenobarbital, or prednisone)
• Calcium supplementation during pregnancy and lactation
• May also be used in the management of various inflammatory diseases and potentially in weight management and cognitive enhancement.

Dosage and Administration: The usual adult dosage is 2-3 tablets daily with meals, or as directed by a physician.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include bloating and swelling in the abdomen. Infrequent side effects may include loss of appetite, upset stomach, constipation, nausea, vomiting, unusual weight loss, increased thirst/urination, weakness, unusual tiredness,and formation of kidney stones.

Precautions: Xtracal-OT is contraindicated in patients with:

• Incomplete or infrequent bowel movements
• Kidney stones or kidney disease
• Increased activity of the parathyroid gland
• High amount of calcium in urine or blood
• Extreme loss of body water

Caution should be exercised in patients with allergies and other medical conditions such as heart disease, pancreas disease, or difficulty absorbing nutrition.

Xtracal-OT can decrease the absorption of certain drugs such as bisphosphonates, quinolone antibiotics, tetracycline antibiotics, levothyroxine, phenytoin, and tiludronate disodium. Thiazide-type diureticsmay increase the risk of hypercalcemia and hypercalciuria when taken with Xtracal-OT. Both aluminum- and magnesium-containing antacids may increase urinary calcium excretion. Mineral oil and stimulant laxatives may decrease calcium absorption. Glucocorticoids, oral contraceptives, estrogen compounds, and anti-inflammatory drugs may deplete calcium levels.

Storage: Store below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
