Zemicef Powder For Suspension - (100mg/5ml)

Presentation: When reconstituted, each 5 ml of Zemicef Suspension contains Cefixime Trihydrate BP equivalent to Cefixime 100 mg. It is typically available in bottles containing powder for reconstitution to [mention typical bottle size, e.g., 30 ml or 50 ml] suspension.  

Indications:Zemicef (Cefixime) is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including:  

  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)  
  • Acute otitis media (middle ear infection)
  • Pharyngitis and tonsillitis (throat infections)  
  • Acute bronchitis and acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis (lung infections)  
  • Uncomplicated gonorrhea (cervical/urethral infections)

Dosage and Administration:The dosage of Zemicef depends on the type and severity of the infection, as well as the patient's age and weight.Always follow your doctor's prescription.For adults, the usual dose is 400 mg daily, administered as a single dose or in two divided doses (200 mg every 12 hours).For children, the recommended dose is usually 8 mg/kg/day, administered as a single daily dose or in two divided doses (4 mg/kg every 12 hours).The powder needs to be reconstituted with the specified amount of water as mentioned on the bottle label to create the suspension. Shake the suspension well before each use and administer orally. Zemicef can be taken with or without food.  

Pharmacology:Cefixime is a bactericidal antibiotic that works by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall.It is stable in the presence of many beta-lactamase enzymes, which can break down other antibiotics.  

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

  • Diarrhea  
  • Abdominal pain
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Headache

Less common side effects can occur. Consult your doctor immediately if you experience any severe or persistent side effects, such as allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling), or signs of liver problems.

Precautions: Inform your doctor if you have any allergies, especially to cefixime or other cephalosporin antibiotics, penicillins, or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Use with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis, or kidney problems. Dosage adjustments may be necessary in patients with impaired kidney function.

Pregnancy & Lactation: Cefixime should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. It is not known whether cefixime passes into breast milk. Caution should be exercised when administering Zemicef to a nursing woman. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding while taking this medication.

Storage: Store the powder for suspension below 30°C. Keep the reconstituted suspension as directed on the label, usually refrigerated and used within a specific timeframe (e.g., 7 or 14 days). Check the product label for specific storage instructions after reconstitution. Keep out of the reach of children.
