Zikid

Presentation: Tablets containing Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate USP equivalent to elemental Zinc [strength typically 20 mg]. Available in strips, manufactured by Globe Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Indications: Indicated for the treatment and prevention of zinc deficiency, which can occur due to inadequate diet, malabsorption, trauma, burns, diarrhea, or protein-losing conditions. Zinc is crucial for immune function, wound healing, taste and smell, growth, and various enzymatic processes.

Dosage and Administration:

  • Adults and children over 30 kg: Usually 20 ml (4 teaspoonfuls) of syrup or 1 tablet (20 mg) 1-3 times daily after food, or as directed by a physician.
  • Children under 10 kg (syrup): 5 ml (1 teaspoonful) 2 times daily after food.
  • Children between 10-30 kg (syrup): 10 ml (2 teaspoonfuls) 1-3 times daily after food.
  • For tablets, children's dosage should be determined by a physician, often based on weight.
  • It is most effective if taken 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. However, if stomach upset occurs, it can be taken with food.
  • Dispersible tablets should be dissolved in a teaspoon of water before administration.

Side Effects: May cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset, heartburn, and gastritis.

Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to zinc. In acute renal failure, zinc accumulation may occur, requiring dose adjustment. Concomitant intake of tetracyclines or quinolones and zinc may decrease the absorption of both drugs; allow at least 3 hours between doses. Concomitant intake of penicillamine and zinc may decrease zinc absorption.

Storage: Keep in a dry place away from light and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
