Ingredients: Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate BP equivalent to elemental Zinc (10 mg or 20 mg per tablet, as specified on the packaging). Some formulations may also contain B-complex vitamins.
Indications: Indicated for the treatment and prevention of zinc deficiency, which can occur due to inadequate dietary intake, malabsorption, excessive loss (e.g., diarrhea, burns), or increased need. Zinc is essential for immune function, wound healing, growth, and sensory functions.
Dosage and Administration: Dosage depends on the age, weight, and severity of the zinc deficiency.
Side Effects: Common side effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and diarrhea, especially at higher doses. A metallic taste in the mouth may also occur.
Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to zinc salts. In acute renal failure, zinc accumulation may occur, requiring dosage adjustment. Zinc can interact with certain antibiotics (tetracyclines, quinolones) and penicillamine, potentially reducing their absorption. Take zinc supplements at least 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after these medications. High doses of zinc taken long-term can lead to copper deficiency.
Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
