Zofen TS Tablet

Presentation: Each film-coated tablet typically contains 1.5 mg of Pizotifen Malate BP equivalent to 1.5 mg of Pizotifen. 

Indications: Zofen TS is indicated as a prophylactic treatment for vascular headaches of the migraine type, including classical migraine, common migraine, and cluster headache. It is not effective in relieving migraine attacks once they have started.

Dosage and Administration: The usual adult dose is 1.5 mg daily, which can be taken as a single dose at night or divided into three doses throughout the day. Dosage should be adjusted by the physician based on individual patient requirements, up to a maximum of 4.5 mg daily. A single dose should not exceed 3 mg. For children over 2 years, the maximum daily dose is 1.5 mg, usually divided, although up to 1 mg can be given as a single dose at night.

Side Effects: The most common side effects include increased appetite, weight gain, and drowsiness. Occasionally, nausea and dizziness may occur. CNS stimulation may occur in children.

Precautions: Caution should be exercised in patients with urinary retention and renal impairment. Zofen TS may enhance the effects of alcohol and other central nervous system depressants like sedatives, hypnotics, and antihistamines. It may also antagonize the hypotensive effect of adrenergic neuron blockers. Drowsiness may impair the ability to drive or operate machinery. It should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the risk to the fetus, and breastfeeding is not recommended.

Storage: Keep in a dry place away from light and heat. Keep out of the reach of children.
