Zolium 0.5

Presentation: Each tablet of Zolium 0.5 contains Alprazolam BP 0.5 mg.

Indications: Zolium (Alprazolam) is indicated for the short-term relief of anxiety, anxiety associated with depression, and panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia. It is a benzodiazepine with anxiolytic, hypnotic, and anticonvulsant properties.

Dosage and Administration: Treatment should be initiated with a dose of 0.25 to 0.5 mg three times daily. Depending on the response, the dose may be increased at intervals of 3 to 4 days in increments of no more than 1 mg per day. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 4 mg. In elderly patients or those with advanced liver disease, the usual starting dose is 0.25 mg two or three times daily and may be gradually increased if needed and tolerated. When discontinuing therapy, the dosage should be reduced gradually by no more than 0.5 mg every three days. The tablets should be swallowed whole and not chewed, crushed, or broken.

Side Effects: The most frequent side effects are drowsiness and light-headedness, which are usually observed at the beginning of therapy and tend to disappear with continued medication. Other possible side effects include depression, headache, confusion, dry mouth, and constipation.

Precautions: Alprazolam may produce psychological and physical dependence; therefore, increasing the dose or abruptly discontinuing therapy should be done only under medical advice. Caution should be exercised in patients with hepatic or renal disease, chronic pulmonary insufficiency, or sleep apnea. It is contraindicated in patients with acute narrow-angle glaucoma and known hypersensitivity to alprazolam or other benzodiazepines. Alprazolam is in pregnancy category D and should be avoided during pregnancy. It is assumed to be excreted in breast milk, so nursing mothers should not use it. The safety and effectiveness in individuals below 18 years have not been established.

Storage: Store Zolium 0.5 mg tablets below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
